Every year the careless use of candles result in thousands of fires in domestic properties across the country.
Nationally the fourth highest number of fire injuries were due to fires started by candles.
Through targeted campaigns in Hampshire, that raise the public’s awareness to the possible dangers, and the consequences, of careless use of candles, we have seen a year on year reduction in this type of incident, from 126 to 31 over a six year period.
A reduction of over 75%.

Safety messages
- Keep candles away from anything that can catch fire.
- Keep candles firmly upright and in a proper holder.
- Always place candles on a heat resistant surface.
- Always put candles out before moving them.
- Never leave a candle unattended.
